between the flo/es

between the flo/es is a conceptual sound sculpture centered around our tenuous relationship with the natural world, specifically the human role in climate change. As the space between the ice grows broader and warmer, and the negative space where the glaciers once loomed increases, it will creep up beneath us until we find ourselves swimming in it.
This work is, in part, a prepared soundscape written as a tribute to the town that birthed it. Every sound present in the piece was recorded in Ólafsfjörður. The glacial skeleton surrounding the piece is a haunting reminder of the beauty of the Northern landscape, as well as its vulnerability to rising Arctic temperatures. Audience members are invited to enter the glacier and experience the sonic landscape of the piece, and to stay for as much or as little time as they wish.
